Southwest Montana is in the heart of Wheat Country and here in our little town of Manhattan, Montana where we call it the "Little Apple", we are in the heart of Potato Country. Every year the Potato Festival is always the high point of summer. And this year it was even more exciting for our Family as it was also the Grand Opening the store front of our new family business: “Gluten-Free Prairie”. Potatoes are naturally gluten-free, so opening our store during Potato Festival seemed like a natural. But on a more serious note, this milestone brings us one step closer to realizing our familie's mission to bring healthy gluten-free products onto store shelves nationwide. We hear it more everyday: Everyone knows someone who’s gluten-free these days. the quest to live a healthy gluten-free lifestyle has truly become our personal crusade.
If you're passing through Manhattan, Montana, we hope you'll stop by for a tour. We're right in the middle of Main Street, next to the Auto Inn, just across from the train tracks. If you think that sounds like a little slice of Americana, we'd all agree. Currently the retail space is open intermittently and by appointment as renovations continue in the rear baking area. Gluten-Free Prairie currently offers several oat based products including oatmeal, groats and toasted oat flour. They’re probably best known in stores around town for their most popular: Granola Bites and Hunger Buster Cookies. All of the products are available at L&F Market in Manhattan as well as several locations throughout Bozeman and around the state.
Our partner and son Jeremy is the research baker. Jeremy always loved cooking and as a child was labeled the ‘Fearless Cook’ by the family. That gift seems to translate well as our family has created a series of on-line recipe videos, also edited by Jeremy. The videos are shot in our Wheaton Family Kitchen with exteriors shot around Manhattan and Bozeman.:
Even with all of the research available, I know that a few gluten-free consumers still don’t think they can eat oats. I understand. I was one of them...until I met these oats. All the research supports the fact that oats are naturally gluten-free but often cross-contaminated in the field. Gluten-Free Prairie oats are grown in clean gluten-free fields right here in the Gallatin Valley, just a few miles from our home. The oats are harvested and processed on gluten-free equipment. Oats are also a great source of the B vitamins, protein and fiber - elements often missing in a gluten-free diet.”
Gluten-Free Prairie is built on the foundation of the American dream that anything is possible. A portion of our profits will always go to programs to raise awareness.
